rdd-logoI was diagnosed with Achalasia 5 years ago which followed with a Cardiomyotomy. Achalasia is a disease (recently discovered as Auto Immune) that affects the ability to swallow. It is both a muscular and nervous system that causes the Oesophagus to swell, close and in my case “grow through”.

Not much is known about this disorder and specialists struggle as to how they treat and manage this condition in their patients. Palliative treatments are only available and the condition is as painful to many sufferers as constant heart attacks.

Most sufferers (Achalasians) receive most of their advice for treatments via the worldwide support groups discussion threads and Facebook support sites.

In Australia there is no known studies and just medical confusion.
